Mercury sizzles to 41.8 degrees at Una, 5-days of yellow alert
The Mercury sizzled to an all-time high in this summer season at Una as the Maximum temperature stayed at 41.8 degrees Celsius. With effect from May 23, Indian Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert warning in the state.
The maximum temperature went up to an all-time high in the season on Sunday as it was 41.8 degrees followed by 40.3 degrees at Berthin in Bilaspur. Maximum temperature stayed two to three degrees above normal in the rest of the state and sweltering heatwave conditions have developed.
Tourists are making beelines to Shimla and Manali to avoid scorching heat wave conditions. Dhaulakaun in Sirmaur is 40 degrees, and Hamirpur 38.4 degrees. Chamba 37.6 degees, Kangra 37.4 degees, Sundarnagar 36.7, Dharmshala 32.8, Airport Jubbarhati 31, Shimla 26.8, Dalhousie 26.5,Kalpa 23.2, Kufri and Narkanda 21 and Keylong 20.
The Met Office issued a Yellow alert with effect from May 23 to 35. Heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places for the next 24 hrs.
Possibility of widespread rainfall at most places on May 24 in mid-hills and many places on plains, lower and middle hills from May 23 to 26.
Rain may damage standing crops, fruit plants, and young seedlings during yellow alert in the state.
