Mandi citizens rally for peace and unity, Urge collective effort against communal tensions
Several progressive and democratic organizations organized a march through the bustling Bazaar of Mandi, calling for unity and peace amidst rising communal tensions. The demonstrators carried placards and banners, passionately raising slogans in support of communal harmony and condemning forces that seek to divide society.
The march followed a convention held earlier at Vishwakarma Hall, where various speakers voiced their concerns about the spread of communalism in the state and particularly in Mandi. The speakers highlighted that Mandi has long been a symbol of brotherhood, and now political forces are threatening that legacy by fostering division. They called on citizens to stand together against these divisive elements to protect the nation’s constitution and its secular fabric.
CPM leader Kushal Bhardwaj addressed the gathering, sharing that a resolution for peace and harmony had been passed during the convention. A Sadbhavana Committee was also formed to encourage the public to maintain communal peace and unity.
Prominent citizens such as former professor Ravi, former Executive Officer of Mandi Nagar Parishad Urwashi Walia, advocates Desh Raj Sharma and Anil Sen, CITU leader Bhupinder Singh, and MC councilor Rajender Mohan also addressed the crowd, emphasizing the importance of collective action to preserve the town’s communal harmony.
