Lions Club Shimla Leads Tree Plantation Drive to Promote Environmental Awareness
At Lions Club Shimla, the motto “We Serve” guides their active involvement in civic, cultural, and social upliftment of society. In addition to these efforts, the Lions Club recognizes the rampant exploitation of natural resources by mankind. Club President Lion Man Mohan Verma highlighted the importance of tree planting for maintaining ecological balance and conserving soil. He explained that trees release water vapor into the air through transpiration, which eventually returns as rainfall. To promote a clean environment, the Lions Club organizes annual tree plantation drives in and around Shimla, spreading awareness through banners and other means.
Recently, club members organized a tree plantation drive in the village of Dhanain, Mashobra Block, in collaboration with the H.P. Forest Department. Over 120 saplings, including Deodar, Khanoor, and Walnut trees, were planted by members and their families. The initiative aims not only to plant trees but also to ensure their growth and care over time. Lion Sufal Sood chaired the project, and President Lion Man Mohan Verma, alongside President Lion M.K. Sharma, Secretary Lion C.L. Sankhyan, Treasurer Lion D.K. Chauhan, and other dedicated members and their families, participated actively in the event. The President also expressed gratitude to Mr. Anish, DFO, Mr. Azit Kumar, Range Officer, and other H.P. Forest Department staff members for their cooperation.
