Leopard attack in Sanjauli Shimla

The specter of leopard attacks has reemerged in Shimla, the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Over the past two days, the growing menace of leopards has been particularly felt in Sanjauli. In the last two nights alone, two dogs have fallen prey to the leopard, causing a sense of panic among the local residents. It’s worth noting that in the past, leopards have frequently targeted dogs during midnight hours in Sanjauli.

According to local residents Rakesh Kumar and Roshan Thakur, leopard attacks become more frequent as soon as winter sets in. Concerned locals have reported this issue to the wildlife wing of the forest department, raising hopes that the Wildlife Wing will soon install cages to capture these leopards. On Tuesday and Wednesday nights, around ten o’clock, the leopard not only seized dogs but also attacked a pet dog, leaving it with severe injuries. This has instilled fear among locals even when walking in the area.

It’s important to mention that in the past year, residents faced significant fear when a leopard entered the residential area on the way to Dingu temple. With the advent of winter this time, a similar situation has unfolded along the entire route from the market. Leopards have been spotted in Shimla previously, causing alarm when a leopard abducted a child in Kanlog and Down Dale. Although the forest department had previously set up a cage, they were unsuccessful in capturing the leopard. Now, once again, the presence of leopards is causing turmoil in Sanjauli. While the focus has been on targeting dogs so far, the appearance of leopards in residential areas has generated apprehension among the local populace.
