Junga’s traditional Dussehra fair started with the burning of Lanka
The district level Dussehra fair in Junga, adjacent to the capital, began last evening with the burning of Lanka. According to tradition, under the leadership of Khush Vikram Sen, the ruler of the then Keonthal princely state, a procession was taken out from the palace with Raghunath’s palanquin and musical instruments in which hundreds of people from the area participated. After the king performed the puja, Lanka was burnt by setting fire to the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkarna and Meghnad. Hundreds of people enjoyed this scene. There is also a popular belief among the people that the wrath of Saturn does not come upon seeing the scene of burning of Lanka. Tehsildar and Fair Officer Junga Narayan Singh Verma said that efforts have been made to make the district level fair attractive. In this three-day fair, women’s tug of war, Kabaddi, children’s cultural programs and Star Night are being organized. Apart from this, a huge wrestling competition has been organized on the last day of the fair in which women wrestling will be the center of attraction.
On this occasion, BJP leader and Rajmata Vijay Jyoti Sen, Pankaj Sen, local Panchayat head Bansi Lal Kashyap and other officials of the fair committee were present.
