Issue of unemployment: Himachal Assembly witnessed sharp exchanges between members of the opposition and treasury benches

Himachal Pradesh Assembly witnessed sharp exchanges between members of the opposition and treasury benches on Friday on the issue of unemployment however the ruling benches pushed the blame on the former Jai Ram Thakur Government for failing to delay to complete this guarantee.

Raising the issue before the question hours in the assembly on Friday, BJP members were on their toes to adjourn the proceedings of the house to discuss this issue. The spar broke out in the house between the members of the BJP and Independent member Hoshiyar Singh. Mr Singh said that he was for taking the question hours first but BJP members stood on their seats and accused him of not intervening. However, the members of treasury benches supported Mr Singh to take the question hours first.

Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said that he is ready to suspend the entire business to discuss this adjournment motion brought by BJP under rule 67 but he said that the house would suspend the discussion listed under rule 130 on the law and order listed for the day by the members of opposition. Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur pressing for the adjournment in the house said that Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu promised an employment guarantee to one lakh people however the state government could not give employment to 20000 youths. He said that the government is running away from its promise and the youth are running from post to pillar and results were not declared.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harsh Vardhan Chauhan said that the BJP could not press for the adjournment of question hours as Independent members and members of treasury benches want to raise their listed issues. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu defended him alleging that the opposition had no right to raise the issue of unemployment as they cheated the youth as jobs were sold for Rs 50,000 to 1 lakh and police paper and JOA papers were leaked under its rule. ” The previous BJP rule could not provide 20,000 employment in its entire rules however Congress has advertised and employed 22000 people in the first years and the process is on to fill up other vacant posts. He said that state government is fighting in the courts and exposed various recruitment scams that are pending in the courts. He said that in JOA code 817, the Supreme Court gave the decision in favor of the state and the recruitment process is going on.

The opposition members protesting against the CM’s rebuttal on the issue to blame his rule walked out from the house as the speaker allowed Mr. Sukhu to speak to defend him on the issue of employment. Later the members of the treasury benches condemned the walkout of the opposition who took part in the assembly proceeding but boycotted the question hours.
