International Clean Air Day celebrated at DDU
Courtesy of Health and Family Welfare Department, District Shimla, International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies was celebrated in the premises of DDU Hospital on Monday. It was presided over by Chief Medical Officer Shimla Dr. Rakesh Pratap. On this occasion, the people present and the staff members were given detailed information about the importance of clean air. Giving further information, Chief Medical Officer District Shimla said that clean air is very important for health, economy, productivity and environment, while air pollution is the biggest environmental risk to human health. He said that it is one of the main causes of death and disease at the global level, polluted air invites many diseases. Polluted air can lead to the spread of asthma, TB, pneumonia in children, heart disease and lung diseases etc.
He said that we should make efforts to improve the quality of clean air, such as using public transport instead of private vehicles, planting more trees, avoiding the use of plastic, disposing of garbage properly, reducing the use of chemicals, using chimney in the kitchen inside the house. He said that recycled and reusable items such as cloth bags, paper envelopes, iron items etc. can be reused.
The CMO appealed to the people to take care of cleanliness and also urged them to keep the surrounding environment clean. Giving further information, he said that people are being made aware about the prevention of ampox and dengue at the block level in the district. He appealed to the general public to contact the nearest health center in case of any symptoms like fever, headache, body ache, rashes or spots on the body. Do not be afraid of the disease but be alert and aware. All kinds of health facilities are available free of cost in every government health institution.
