Indian Navy triumphs in Dr. YS Parmar volleyball tournament: Himachali athletes shine globally

Indian Navy Clinches Title; Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa Felicitates Winning Teams

The Indian Navy team emerged victorious in the 21st All India Dr. YS Parmar Memorial Volleyball Competition, defeating the Indian Army 3-1 in a thrilling final match. Uttarakhand secured third place after a hard-fought match against Northern Railway.

Rewards and Recognition

Deputy Commissioner Kangra, Hemraj Bairwa, presented the trophies and cash prizes to the winning teams. The Indian Navy received a trophy and ₹2 lakh, while the Indian Army was awarded ₹1 lakh as the runner-up. Uttarakhand, finishing third, received ₹75,000.

Encouraging Sports in Himachal

Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner Bairwa congratulated the players and praised the exceptional talent displayed by athletes from across the country. He emphasized that such high-level competitions in Panchrukhi not only inspire local youth but also provide a platform for emerging talent to flourish.

He assured that similar tournaments will continue to be organized in the district to encourage sports and nurture athletes. The government is focusing on enhancing sports infrastructure, with multi-purpose sports complexes under construction in Jaisinghpur and Dehra in Kangra district.

Bairwa highlighted the achievements of Himachal Pradesh athletes on national and international platforms, showcasing the state’s immense potential in sports. He noted that the volleyball competition saw remarkable performances from several players from the region.

Tribute to Sports Coach

A moment of silence was observed in memory of Sanat Klette, the softball coach of the Youth Services and Sports Department, who passed away recently.

Guests and Participants

The event was attended by former Chief Parliamentary Secretary Jagjivan Paul, SDM Palampur Netra Meti, and other dignitaries, along with sports department officials, staff, and players from various teams.

Such initiatives are a testament to Himachal Pradesh’s commitment to promoting sports and creating opportunities for its talented athletes to excel on a global stage.
