IMD predicts a warm October accompanied by dry weather 

After the withdrawal of the Monsoon from the state and the Northern West Himalayan states impact of EL-NINO would continue to loom creating dry and warm weather conditions during the remaining days of this month.

Indian Meteorological Department issued a long-range forecast for the rainfall and temperature during post-monsoon Season 2023 said that including Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand most parts of North West of India are likely to receive below-normal rainfall. 

However, many areas in south peninsular India, northeast India, and a few pockets in the northernmost region of the country are likely to experience above-normal rainfall. 

Monthly rainfall over the country as a whole during October 2023 is most likely to be normal.

Himachal Pradesh witnessed compatibility excess rainfall in the remaining part of the country in the rainy season and would have less rainfall during October – December 2023 in the postmonsoon season and before the winter season.

IMD weather built for long-range predicts that some areas of northwest India including Himachal Pradesh are likely to receive below-normal rainfall however forecast indicates a probability of normal to above-normal rainfall over many areas of northwest India. 

IMD said that currently, El Niño conditions are prevailing over the equatorial Pacific region and the latest forecast indicates that the El Niño conditions are likely to continue in the upcoming season. 

Predicting lasting El Nino for coming months IMD said the impact of its conditions is likely to cease by the end of the year.

The prevailing dry weather may arrest the sliding down of mercury even in hill States Met Office announced that above-normal maximum and minimum temperatures are expected in Himachal Pradesh in the coming two months.

Similarly, above-normal minimum temperatures are likely over most parts of the country barring some areas in northeast India where normal minimum temperatures are likely to prevail. 

In the coming three days afterward a fresh Western Disturbance likely to make a feeble impact to change dry weather conditions as IMD said that WD may affect the Western Himalayan Region with effect of Oct 13 afterwards.

The WD may bring a major spell of snowfall on October 15 and 16 in the high reaches and rain and thunderstorms downstream of the state. 

Met office Shimla said that Light to moderate rain or snowfall predicted in many places in the high reaches and few places in the mid and goot hills are predicted on October 15 and 16 and inclement weather conditions all over the state from October 14 to 17.

In the past 24 hours state was mainly dry bearing light spells of rain and slight snowfall in one or two places of the state.Baijnath(Kangra) had four mm of rain, Keylong was one mm, and  Chamba: was 0.5 mm.

The minimum temperature of Keylong was coldest at 2.3 degrees Kalpa (Kinnaur) 5 degrees, Kufri  10, Narkanda  7.5degrees, Dalhousie  14 degrees, Manali  7 degrees, Shimla 12.8 degrees Jubberhati 13.5  degrees, Dharmshala 15 degrees, Una 15, Nahan 17.5, Solan 10.5 Kangra 13.9, Mandi 13, Bilaspur 17 and  Chamba 13.2 degrees respectively.
