Himachal’s zero tolarance for high profile poltical drug peddlers , 41.5 pc occupying its crowding jails
Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government has given free way to deal with the drug peddlers after posting smarts and effective cops in the anti-drug sleauth. Message is being given to those who are running drug cartel under the guise of poltical patronage that government would adopted zero tolerance to high profile drug peddlers to secure the future of youth who are becoming victim of mence. It is worthwhile to mention that three youth have succumbed to withdrawal and overuse of these synthetic drugs this year. A ward in-charge of Congress party was nabbed red handed peddling drugs in state capital and it is also found that some of the drugs peddlers carry weapons for trafficking the consignment a police officer posted in the antidrug sleauth informed us. In a press release issued by the spokesperson of police department said that it has
s adopted zero tolerance in tackling
crimes against women and ND&PS cases and its jails are crowded of Accused, under trail and convict. Spokesperson said that resultantly large number of
investigations have successfully concluded with large number of conviction.
Presently, there are total 15 prisons functional in the State of
Himachal Pradesh including a newly constructed prison at Nalagarh which has
capacity of 166 prisoners. The total capacity for inmates in these 15 jails is
2560 and presently 2901 inmates or prisoners are lodged in the prisons.
Himachal Pradesh Police is especially focusing on crimes against
women and ND&PS Act cases. For speedy disposal of ND&PS Act cases and
crime against women/POCSO cases, Robust Trial Management system has
also been started by the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh
whereby a weekly monitoring system of case evaluation has been established.
It is worth mentioning here that ever since this Robust Trial Management System has been started, there has been significant increase in the disposal of ND&PS Act cases and crime against women cases. About 598 inmates in Jails are incarcerated for committing crime against women (CAW). Out of these 598 inmates, 333 are under-trials and 265 convicted i.e. 20.6 pc of total lodged strength of inmates is of crime against women. About 1205 inmates are lodged in Jails for committing offences under ND&PS Act (drugs) cases. Out of which 930 are under-trials and 275 convicted i.e. 41.5 p c of total lodged population of inmates.
