Himachal’s Sirmaur gets a gift: Sukhu approves a helipad in Nahan

In a move that promises to transform connectivity and tourism in Himachal Pradesh’s Sirmaur district, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s government has approved the construction of a heliport in Nahan. This much-awaited project has already started gaining momentum, with the Public Works Department (PWD) issuing tenders for an Obstacle Limitation Surface (OLS) survey. The survey will determine the groundwork needed for the heliport’s construction, including assessing potential obstacles and planning related tasks. The final budget for the project will be determined based on the survey results, paving the way for construction to begin soon.

Budget to Follow OLS Survey

The heliport is set to be built at Dharkyari Mohal, close to Nahan’s district headquarters. The district administration had earlier identified and transferred 11 bighas and 10 biswas of land to the tourism department for this purpose. All required formalities were completed, and the proposal had been awaiting government approval, which has now been granted. After the OLS survey, the state will allocate a budget for construction. If everything proceeds as planned, Sirmaur’s residents will soon have access to air travel, bringing convenience and joy to locals and visitors alike.

PWD Nahan’s Executive Engineer, Alok Juneja, shared the latest updates, stating, “The government has approved the heliport at Dharkyari Mohal. OLS survey tenders have been floated, and further actions will be taken based on the survey report.”

A Mini-Airport Experience

The proposed heliport isn’t just about air connectivity; it promises to be a full-fledged travel hub with passenger-friendly facilities. As per the district administration’s 2023 proposal, the heliport will accommodate up to three helicopters simultaneously. Travelers can look forward to comfortable waiting rooms, seating arrangements, and even a restaurant to ensure a pleasant experience. Security measures will also be in place, making it a state-of-the-art facility comparable to a mini-airport.

Enhanced Connectivity

Once operational, the heliport will connect Sirmaur to key destinations like Shimla, Chandigarh, and Dharamshala. This will be a game-changer for locals and tourists alike, making air travel a viable and convenient option. While the exact routes will be finalized post-construction, the district’s residents are already excited about the prospect of flying high.

Unleashing Sirmaur’s Tourism Potential

Sirmaur is a treasure trove of tourism opportunities, and the heliport is expected to give the sector a significant boost. The district is home to Suketi, Asia’s first fossil park, and Paonta Sahib, a spiritual hub with its historic Gurudwara drawing thousands of devotees daily. The serene Renuka Ji Lake, the largest natural lake in Himachal, is a well-known pilgrimage and tourist spot. The Churdhar peak, a sacred site for Shrigul Maharaj devotees, and Nahan town’s heritage buildings add to the region’s charm. Snow-laden areas like Haripurdhar and Nauhradhar are also popular attractions, especially in winter. The heliport will not only improve access to these destinations but will also attract more visitors, boosting local businesses and creating employment.

A Gift for Sirmaur

Nahan MLA Ajay Solanki expressed gratitude for the state government’s initiative, saying, “Under Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s leadership, the heliport has been approved. Budget allocation will follow the OLS survey. This heliport is a big gift for Nahan and the entire Sirmaur district. It will not only promote tourism but also open up employment opportunities for the people.”

With this ambitious project, Sirmaur is set to soar to new heights, literally and figuratively. The heliport is expected to transform the district, making it a hub of connectivity and tourism in Himachal Pradesh.
