Himachal Pradesh Goes Digital: Birth and Death Registrations Now Online
In a significant move towards digital governance, Himachal Pradesh has transitioned to an exclusively online system for registering births and deaths. The Health Department’s amendments to the Birth and Death Registration Act aim to streamline the process and enhance the accuracy of vital records.
Key changes include recording birth dates in a two-digit format for the day and month, and a four-digit format for the year. Birth registrations must be completed within 30 days of occurrence, ensuring timely documentation. Additionally, the cause of death will now be included in death certificates.
Health Secretary M. Sudha Devi announced that these updates, part of the Birth and Death Registration Amendment Act, 2024, are expected to improve the efficiency and transparency of the registration system. This shift underscores the state government’s commitment to digital solutions for public services, encouraging residents to familiarize themselves with the new process to ensure compliance.
