Himachal low-lying areas and North India overcast by fog – Normal life paralyzed

Including low-lying areas of Himachal Pradesh most places of North West India including Punjab, Haryana, Uttrakhand, Chandigarh, and Western UP remained under thick fogs and light clouds paralyzed normal life in the region.

According to the Punjab Met Office said that clouds and fog overcast low skies in Northern Western India since the wee hours which reduces the visibility on the roads, airports, and railways.

In districts, Sirmour, Solan, Una Bilaspur, Hamirpur Mandi, and Kangra fogs also reduced the visibility early morning and air, railway, and vehicular transport was affected. Delhi Shimla flight lands delay of one hour due to low visibility at National Capital Region.

Owing Western Disturbance (WD) going to be active in the Himachal from today may cause light snowfall in higher altitude areas of Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur today and tomorrow. There is a possibility of clear weather or light drizzle in isolated parts of the state.

Meteorological Center Shimla has issued a yellow alert of dense fog in six districts. Dense fog may also occur in some areas of the Mandi, Bilaspur, Kullu, Hamirpur, Una, and Solan districts of the state. This will reduce visibility. In view of this, tourists and local people have been advised to drive with caution.

Tourists from all over the country are making beelines to hill stations in the state to celebrate the new year but they may not be able to witness the white new year here.

Some hill stations that are already occupied to their capacity may attract New Year revelers for their sunshine.

Barring high altitude areas one could not be able to witness snow. According to the Administration only limited access and daring the unprecedented traffic jams one could witness snowscapes at Koksar and Sissu of Lahaul Spiti and Rohtang of Kullu as there is no snow anywhere in the rest of the state.

According to IMD till January 12 there are fewer chances of inclement weather and snowfall in any of the world-famous tourist destinations like Shimla and Manali.

Usually, the high peaks of Shimla, Manali, Mandi, Dharamshala, Chamba, Kinnaur, and Lahaul Spiti districts are covered with snow till the last week of December, but so far this year the snow has disappointed the tourists.

Director of Meteorological Center, Shimla, Surendra Pal said that WD is weakening in the state. There is no possibility of good snowfall. He said that today and tomorrow there may be light snowfall in the higher areas. But there is no possibility of good snowfall till December 10.

The maximum temperature of Keylong was recorded at 8.8 degrees Celsius on yes, 7.8 degrees above normal.

Similarly, the temperature of Kalpa has also reached 13.7 degrees, 7.6 degrees more than normal. Generally in winter, the mercury of Kalpa and Keylong remains around the freezing point in the last week of December. Similarly, the temperature of other cities is also higher than normal.
