Himachal Kissan Sabha Urges MPs and Kangana to Fulfill Farmers’ Demands

The Himachal Pradesh Kissan Sabha (HKS) submitted a memorandum to newly elected Members of Parliament and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, pressing them to fulfill promises made to farmers after a prolonged protest at the Delhi border. Despite the extensive protest, the farmers’ demands remain unmet, causing significant distress in the agrarian community.

The HKS delegation visited the offices of the newly elected MPs and Kangana Ranaut. In her absence, the memorandum, which articulated the farmers’ profound grievances, was handed over to her aide.

The document served as a reminder to the Modi government of the unfulfilled promises made following the major farmer protest that ended on December 9, 2022.

The Delhi border protest, lasting over a year, saw farmers enduring harsh conditions to advocate for their rights.

Central to their demands were the repeal of controversial farm laws, guaranteed minimum support prices (MSP) for crops, and comprehensive measures to ensure their economic stability.

Although the government initially agreed to these terms, the reality has been different. The promised MSP reforms have yet to be implemented, and many farmers continue to suffer due to fluctuating market prices and rising debts.

Farmers feel a strong sense of betrayal, believing their trust was exploited for political gains and then abandoned once the protests ended.

The memorandum submitted to the MPs and Kangana Ranaut’s office underscores the urgency of their situation and calls for immediate action to address their concerns.

A delegation led by Khushal Bhardwaj expressed their frustration over the unfulfilled promises.

“We trusted the government to stand by its word, but we have been let down time and again,” said Bhardwaj. “Our livelihoods are at stake, and we need the promised reforms to survive,” he added.

Kangana Ranaut’s office assured the delegation that the memorandum would be reviewed and the issues raised would be brought to the attention of the relevant authorities.
