High reaches of HP experience snowfall SASE sounds avalanches warning
State is under the grip of bone chilling coldwave as high reaches had snowfall and downstream lashed by light to moderate rain and thundershowers, the Met Office said, Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment also issued warning of avalanches in snowline areas of Lahaul Spiti, Kullu and Kinnuar district in next 24 hrs which could disrupt the vehicular traffic and endanger the human life.
The high reaches of Lahaul Spiti, Kinnuar, Kullu had also got light spell of snowfall overnight, SASE issued the warning to the tribal people cautioning them to not move outside of their house in the Avalanche prone areas in Lahaul Spiti, Kullu and Kinnuar as it prove drastic to their life. SASE said in the press release that HN-3 between Manali-ATR-Darcha at North Portal and between Sisu-Tandi axis. The vehicular traffic on Manali-Attal tunnel-Keylong NH-3 due to an avalanche yesterday is now being restored by the BRO.
Deputy Commissioner LS, Mr Neerj Kumar said that due to snowfall in LS district , all roads are closed and snowfall is still going on. The weather is likely to remain bad in the coming two to three days as well, local people and tourists are instructed to avoid unnecessary travel.Gondola in Lahaul Spiti had ten cm fresh snow, Kalpa(Kinnuar) four mm, Sangla one cm.
Tourist resort Manali was the wettest place, recording 23 mm rainfall, Chamba and Dalhousie 15 mm, Palampur(Kangra) 12 mm, Bhuntar(Kullu) 3.3 mm, Mandi 2.6 mm and Kangra 1.5 mm. The state is under the grip of a cold wave plummeting the maximum temperature moreover fresh snowfall disrupted as many as 247 link and four national and state highways, the snowfall also disrupted water and power supply in many places in the area due to inclement weather.The minimum temperature increased by one or two degrees in the last 24 hrs.
Keylong (Lahaul-Spiti) was coldest in the state with Minimum temperature at minus 4 degree Celsius, Kalpa (Kinnaur) -1.4 , Kufri(Shimla) 2.6, Manali (Kullu) 3, Shimla 5.6, Dalhousie (Chamba) 2.3, Solan 6.2 Bhuntar (Kullu) 6.2, Dharmshala 8.2 and Mandi 9.6, Chamba 10.6 Kangra 11.6, Hamirpur 10.8, Bilaspur 11, Palampur (Kangra) 8, Una 10.6 and Nahan(Sirmour) 10.7 degree Celsius. The Met Office forecast rain and snow at isolated places during the next 24hrs.
