Heavy snowfall disrupts communication in Kinnaur; Mock drill ensures disaster preparedness

In response to heavy snowfall that severed communication links in Kinnaur district, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) organized a comprehensive mock drill to strengthen coordination during natural disasters. The exercise, held at the Disaster Management Authority Office, involved setting up a control room to establish communication with key departments and agencies.

Representatives from the Police, Homeguard, Revenue Department, Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Army, firefighters, Indian Communication Corporation, and various hydroelectric power projects participated. Satellite phones were utilized to connect with remote areas like Yangthang, Chitkul, Yangpa, Sangla, Murang, Katgaon, and Pooh.

Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner Dr. Om Prakash Yadan led the operations from the control room, ensuring effective communication with teams stationed in remote locations. The drill focused on assessing road conditions, ration supplies, and the availability of essential services in snow-affected areas.

Reports from officials confirmed adequate stock of essential goods across the district. The mock drill was deemed a success, demonstrating the administration’s preparedness to manage emergencies during the harsh winter months.
