Health department organized district level marathon
To make people aware about the symptoms and prevention of AIDS, a district level marathon named Red Run was organized on Sunday by the Health and Family Welfare Department, Shimla district. 108 boys and girls from 18 colleges affiliated to the Red Ribbon Club of Shimla district participated in this marathon. They took part in the 5 km long marathon. This marathon was conducted from Chaura Maidan to Himachal University, Summerhill, Shimla and back. District Health Officer Dr. Isha Thakur and District AIDS Control Program Officer Dr. Vineet Lakhanpal flagged off the marathon. In the girl’s category, Vipasha of RKMV College got first place, Shruti got second and Suman got third place. While in the boy’s category, Ankit of Kotshera College got first place, Himanshu got second and Ashish of Theog College got third place.
District AIDS Control Program Officer Dr. Vineet Lakhanpal said that this marathon was organized in compliance with the guidelines of Chief Medical Officer Shimla Dr. Rakesh Pratap and State AIDS Control Society, Himachal Pradesh (HPSACS). He said that this marathon will prove to be a major milestone in promoting public awareness on HIV AIDS.
Dr. Vineet Lakhanpal said that the aim of the Red Run is to achieve several important objectives and raise awareness about AIDS, encourage safe sex practices, promote healthy lifestyles and physical activity, and address the issue of drug abuse. This event not only provides a platform for physical fitness, but also an important opportunity to educate the participants and the community on these serious health issues.
Dr. Siddharth Vats from Oncology Department, IGMC Shimla, Dr. Renu Vats Medical Officer, PHC Baluganj, Dr. Balbir and Dr. Ravindra Athletic Coach, District Sports Office Shimla and members of SPARK NGO, district health workers were present on the occasion.
