Growing dengue outbreak in Sirmaur raises alarms

The dengue situation in Sirmaur district is becoming increasingly worrisome, as hospitals continue to see a steady stream of new patients every day. Over the last 10 days, 396 new cases of dengue have been recorded, pushing the total number of cases to 881. This sharp increase has put the health department on high alert. Adding to their concerns, 43 cases of scrub typhus have also emerged.

Nahan, the district headquarters, is particularly hard-hit by dengue, but the lower regions of the district are also seeing a surge in cases. Meanwhile, residents in the upper areas are grappling with anxiety over the spread of scrub typhus.

In response to the escalating dengue crisis, the Deputy Commissioner of Sirmaur has called for a special meeting with the health department on Thursday evening. During earlier discussions, the administration had directed municipal councils and panchayats to conduct fogging operations to curb the spread of the disease. However, fogging has yet to begin in several affected areas. Industrial zones like Kala Amb, in particular, have not implemented any dengue control measures so far.

Dr. Ajay Pathak, the Chief Medical Officer, reported that the number of dengue cases has now climbed to 881, with 43 scrub typhus cases also confirmed. He urged the public to take necessary precautions and reassured them that the health department is actively working to raise awareness. Health teams are continuously monitoring the situation on the ground, visiting affected areas to provide support and information.
