Fresh spells of thundershowers beneficial for Kharif sowing
The Fresh spell of rain and thundershowers gives Respite to local people and farmers as it would end the dry spell, end the acute shortage of water and prove a boon to good early Kharif sowing in the hill estate.
Agriculture experts say that early premonsoon likely to be beneficial for Kharif sowing as mostly 15 to 20 mm rainfall is recorded in the mid-hills where Farmers are already sowing maize, underground vegetables like Ginger, Turmeric, yams, and other underground cash crops. However, they have to prepone harvesting of Ravi’s underground veggies like Garlic, Onion, and potatoes.
On Apples, pome, and stones early rain in summer would reduce June falls. Still, farmers may have to encounter fungal disease due to humid conditions and slightly above the normal maximum temperature in the state.
Rainfall reported minor disruption in road conditions but an overall good spell of rainfall is ‘ out of the blue ‘ for farmers who have mainly relay on underground water for Irrigation as an increased economic burden on them and cascade cost the cost of production.
A report arrived here from Lahaul Spiti district said that inclement weather triggered a Landslide occurred on the SKTT route (Sansari-Kunzum, Tandi -Thirot state highway -26) linking Kullu Manali with the Pangi area of Chamba district.
State Disaster Management Authority said that road communication to the village Tholong of District Lahaul Spiti snapped and due to this road has been blocked for traffic movement. Information has been informed to the BRO 94RCC for clearance of the route.
