Free Legal Advice at Your Doorstep: Access Justice Through Common Service Centers

Legal assistance is now just a step away, thanks to the free legal advice and counseling services offered through Lok Mitra Kendras (Common Service Centers). District Manager CR Thakur shared that panel lawyers have been appointed at these centers to provide legal guidance to citizens at no cost.

Lok Mitra operators facilitate the online registration of beneficiaries, enabling people at the village level to connect with panel lawyers for legal assistance. This initiative ensures access to tele-law services, an e-interface system designed to help individuals seek legal advice and guidance, especially in the pre-litigation phase. Through video conferencing and telephonic facilities available at Panchayat-level CSCs, marginalized and needy individuals can now access legal aid with ease.

Launched in 2017, the tele-law service is now also available via the Tele-Law mobile app. While the initial response to the scheme was slow, efforts are being made to raise awareness. Thakur has urged CSC operators to promote this service in their communities to ensure more people benefit from free legal aid right at their doorstep.

For those in need of legal assistance, visiting the nearest Common Service Center is the first step. The CSC operator will register the case, and the designated panel lawyer will then connect with the individual to provide free legal counsel.

This initiative represents a significant step toward ensuring justice for all, making legal services accessible to the most vulnerable sections of society.
