Fire incident claims property worth eighty lakh rupees of town’s garbage treatment plant
In a major fire incident that took place Saturday evening, property worth eighty lakh rupees of the local Garbage treatment was reduced to ashes, said a spokesman of the Nagar Parishad.
According to employees of the Nagar Parishad, the monkey had climbed the power line attached to a machine at the Dagneri village treatment plant, which made plastic from waste, due to which there was a short circuit and the garbage caught fire. Due to the short circuit caused by the monkey coming in the grip of the three-phase line passing over here, the spark fell on the garbage below leading to the fire.
One of the employees said that soon the fire reached the machinery side of the plant as well. During this, the employees posted there saved their lives by running away from there and also took two of the four machines of the plant to a safe place.
Meanwhile, someone informed the civic body officials, as well as the Fire brigade and teams from both sides, reached there to extinguish the fire, and ultimately the fire was brought under control despite huge loss to the property.
It’s worth mentioning here that the Hamirpur Nagar Parishad, Hamirpur has been facing disputes with villagers of Dagnehri where the plant is located for a long time due to violation of rules in NGT. At the same time, due to the fire here, local villagers and people who complained to the NGT on Saturday informed the Pollution Control Board about the incident.
One of the complainants, Rita Shastri said that the rules were being continuously floated at the garbage treatment site and the fire had also caused environmental damage along to the property.
