It’s a good time to be a tomato farmer in Solan. Just like last year, the vegetable market is buzzing with activity, and farmers are earning impressive profits from their tomato harvests. In 2023, farmers brought in 392,776 crates of tomatoes, and this year, with half the season still ahead, they’ve already delivered 315,188 crates.
Dr. R.M.C. Sharma, the Secretary of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) in Solan, shared his excitement about the bountiful season. He mentioned that they’re on track to break last year’s record, possibly reaching up to 500,000 crates. The current price of tomatoes is ₹2,500 per quintal, offering farmers excellent returns for their hard work.
Dr. Sharma praised the quality of Himachal tomatoes, known for their durability and good quality, making them a favorite in the market. He also encouraged farmers to keep planting top-notch tomato varieties and consider diversifying their crops to ensure a stable income. It’s a season of optimism and opportunity for Solan’s farmers, who are reaping the rewards of their labor.
