Erosion of MLA prestige & intuition as cause of concern : CM

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Thursday has expressed concern over eroding of institutions of legislators in the state stating in the house that respect and prestige of MLAs is worrying trends need to be address by the state as well as MLA themselves he was replying to a private member resolution brought by Jagat Singh Negi in the state assembly. Mr Thakur said that Legislative Institution needs to be strengthened as none other than MLAs would lost their prestige in the eye of people in the coming time. Agreeing with the concern raised by the Jagat Singh Negi he said that role of MLAs is declining with changing environment vis a vis to other elected and non-official member’s of other institutions. Chief Minister said that in the near future, the government would make provision for inscribing the names of MLAs on the plaque in the MLA priority schemes in the state. He assured the member that advance information about the visit of ministers to any assembly constituency will now be sent to the MLAs, so that the legislators could also participate in the government functions being organized in his assembly segment. Stating that MLAs were referred under various dubious names during previous rule and they were thrown out of public function organized by the erstwhile governments but this government has no objection for making arrangements to make opposition MLAs as party of every public functions by keeping them in utmost regards. Thakur admitted that decline in the deserving respect and prestige of MLA was recorded which is not right however he said that to have honor in the eyes of people mainly rest on the behavior and character of MLA too. Accepting that plaques raised by the MLAs are being broken he assured that government would not allow to broken the plaques and it must be immediately changed if distorted. Chief Minister also mentioned the breaking of inauguration and foundation stone or plaques broken in his constituency during the Congress rule and inauguration plates of such people, were raised whose security deposits had been forfeited in the elections. Taking dig on opposition’s allegation that government is breaking coconuts from place to place instead of breaking heads. On this sarcasm, created din in the house for some time. Earlier, initiating the discussion Negi alleged in the house that changing role of MLAs is changing declining with the every passing days environment. The MLA Asha Kumari said that at least their plaques should be put up in the priority projects of the MLAs. She said that ministers have tours, but their information is not available to the legislators. He said that at least the name of the MLA should be mentioned in foundation stone on the works done in the MLA’s priorities scheme. Congress members Nand Lal, Mohan Lal Brakta, Bhavani Singh Pathania, Indradutt Lakhanpal, Lakhwinder Rana, Col Dhaniram Shandil, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, Satpal Raizada and Rakesh Singha also participated in the discussion.
