Eight wheat procurement centre purchase 17,000 metric tons wheat from farmers
Eight wheat procurement centers were opened in the state to procure wheat in the Rabi season in which 17000 metric tons were purchased from farmers directly at the rate of Rs 1975 per quintal.
This was stated by the Food, Civil Supply and Consumer Affairs Minister Rajinder Garg in a reply to a query in the question hours on the fourth day of Monsoon session.
Minister said that procurement is being done on the Minimum Support Price announced by the union government and five new procurement centers were opened for the first time. Minister said that Government would open new procurement centers after getting permission from Food Corporation of India and new centers would be opened in those areas where wheat production is being done on high scale.
The Minister said that the Jai Ram Government was committed to double the income of farmers in the state and the suggestion of members to increase more procurement and include other cereals to be considered.
Mukesh Agnihotri said that procurement could not be made in Una district where farmers produce the wheat in bulk but due to closing down of center farmers could not avail this facility. Paramjeet Singh Pumi of Dood said that Farmers belonging to his assembly segments should also be provided procurement centers as they are not getting good prices of wheat in the Punjab markets.
Ram Lal Thakur of Ghumarwin demanded that more procurement should be opened in those areas where farmers are producing and having good yields of wheat. Rajiv Bindal of Nahan demanded that State Govt should also start procurement of paddy crops for Poanta Sahib and Kalaamb.
