ECI defers three assembly and one Lok Sabha poll after festival season in HP
Election Commission of India decided to defers the assembly poll in three assemblies and one Parliamentary constituency after consultation with the respective state Chief Secretary.
A notification issued by the Secretary of Election Commission of India Mr Sanjeev Kumar Parsad said baring two assemblies of west Bengal and one of Odisha polling for other 31 assembly and four parliamentary vacancies to be held after the festival season.
Mr Parsad said that this decisions was taken after the holding a meeting with respective states and union territories chief secretaries on on Sep 1, 2021.
He said that CS of Andhara Pradesh, Assam , Haryana, Himachal Pradesh Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttrakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Advisiors of UT of Dadra and NagarHaveli and Daman and Diu, brought \to the notice of commission the constrains related to flood situations, festivals and pandemic. They suggested that it would be advisable to have bye elections after the end of festival seasons.
ECI said that states, various research institutions, techincial expert committeesand professionals have predicted the possibility of third wave of Covid-19 October onward.
CS of Odisha stated that the situation of Covid -19 is under control and poll could be held. CS of West Bengal said that covid and flood situation in poll bound districts are under control and if election would be held it has not affect on the poll bound assembly constituencies.
After taking into consideration the inputs and view of the Chief secretaries of the concerned states and respective Chief Electoral Officers the commission has decided not to hold bye elections in other 31 assembly and three parliamentary segments.
Three assemblies seat are vacant in Himachal Pradesh inlcuding Fatepure of Kangra, Arki of Solan and Jubbal -Kotkhai of Shimla and one Lok Sabha seat is also vacant in Mandi parliamentary segment .
