DYFI District Committee Solan submitted a memorandum to the Hon’ble Defense Minister
Recently, a new “Tour of Duty” scheme named “Agneepath” has been introduced by the Government of India for army recruitment. Due to which the contracting of the Indian Army and permanent employment of youth in the Indian Army and the opportunity of serving the country by joining the army has been ended. It has been more than two years since the Indian Army conducted any recruitment drive to induct a fresh batch of soldiers, while the number of soldiers retiring from the Army has not decreased, as informed by the Defense Ministry. has gone. In the midst of all this, the Government of India announced the ‘Agneepath’ scheme through which the youth would be recruited into the armed forces. But will this step solve the problems of the youth of the country? The answer would be no. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced recently that the government has to recruit 10 lakh people in mission mode in the next one and a half years. But looking at this announcement in detail of the promises made by the BJP leadership in the past, it also seems to be a vague statement and not a mission or plan.
Indian Army is a reputed organization to protect the sovereignty of the nation as well as a medium to provide employment to lakhs of people every year. Failure to organize recruitment in previous years was not only a risk to the operations of Indian Army but also very unfair to these students and young candidates who are preparing and looking for employment for years. Now the cabinet is interested in introducing contractual jobs in armed forces also through the announcement of Agneepath scheme. Agniveer (tenure for fresh recruits) will be enrolled for a period of 4 years only under the respective Service Acts. However, the recruits will be paid a one-time ‘retirement’ package, which includes a part of the salary which will be withdrawn from them and a part will be contributed by the government. It is to be noted that there will be no entitlement to gratuity and pension benefits. Contracting the workforce in any sector should be seen as a threat to the rights that should be guaranteed to any workers. In the case of the Armed Forces, a job that requires years of training and strong will, contracting will not only degrade the quality of the forces, but also the rights of the recruits will be in question.
Through this memorandum, the People’s Youth Association of India raised the demand that
1. TOD i.e. Tour of Duty should be canceled immediately.
2. The old recruitment process should be reinstated.
3. The students whose ground and medical have been cleared in 2019-20 should be immediately examined.
4. Relaxation in age limit should be given to overaged students due to non-recruitment due to corona in two years.
Thus, through this memorandum, the People’s Youth Association of India, keeping in mind the welfare of the youth in the country as well as the integrity of the Armed Forces, has demanded an immediate withdrawal of the announced scheme and conduct recruitment as prescribed by the Armed Forces. To ensure the dignity of
