During previous ten years Himachal police booked as many as 974 murder cases
Himachal Pradesh police stated today that it is maintaining robust trail management for pending murder cases in the court as state record around 97.4 murder cases per annum and after 90 days of investigation challan are being filled in the trail court. Issuing details of murder cases a spokesperson of State police department stated that during previous ten years state police booked as many as 974 murder cases in Himachal Pradesh. As an average 97.4 murder case. After completing the investigation, the challans of these cases were presented by the Police in the respective Courts for trial within a period of 90 days of registration. Presently 457 murder cases are pending in various Courts of the State. Out of these cases, 269 cases (59 per cent) are pending for more than 2 years and 100 cases (22 pc) for more than one year. Whereas the remaining 88 cases (20 pc) are pending in courts for less than one year. In view of large pendency of murder cases in Courts, the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh has introduced Robust Trial Management for murder cases from January 12, 2023 under the new system, the pendency of murder cases is monitored by the DGP personally on weekly basis. Apart from this, it is also reviewed that how many Police personnel and private persons, who are witnesses in murder cases, are appearing in the Courts for testimony. There is no exaggeration to say that the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh had started Robust Trial Management system for ND & PS Act and Rape and POCSO Act cases with effect from March. 29, 2021 and July 9 , 2022 respectively. This system is giving fruitful results and Courts are delivering speedy judgments in these cases. The initiative of introducing Robust Trial Management System in murder cases by the Director General of Police, Himachal Pradesh would also yield good results in the future, which would also help the Courts to deliver speedy verdicts in pending murder cases.
