Drug Free India Abhiyan meeting held in Mandi
District level committee meeting formed under drug free India campaign was held here today chaired by Deputy Commissioner and committee chairman Apoorva Devgan. The meeting discussed various aspects of the plan ready to make Mandi district drug free.
An intense campaign “healthy market, drug free market” will be conducted in Mandi district to aware people about drug abuses and prevent the youth from going towards drugs, the Deputy Commissioner said. Under this, activities will be organized throughout the year through various departments, gram panchayats and urban bodies, self-serving organizations. Healthy market drug-free market agenda will be included in the meetings of village meetings at Gram Panchayat level. Special discussion on drug freedom will be held in the village meeting on October 2.
In the first phase of the campaign, awareness camps will be organized in all business and technical educational institutions, government and private colleges. These camps will be cooperated with health experts, as well as various spiritual organizations, to raise awareness about the side effects of evil like addiction on our physical and mental health. Various activities on drug relief will also be organized through student clubs constituted at school level. The concerned school principal will be the nodal officer for this. Disciplinary committees will also be formed in each school. These committees will conduct surprise inspections to prevent any kind of drug-related activities on school campus and also keep a close eye on outsiders visiting school campus.
Each educational institution will also have a drop box where anyone can provide information regarding drug use. The teacher-parent meeting will also be discussed about monitoring children’s changing behaviors and keeping them away from drug-like activities. Various administrative and departmental officers will educate children on drug relief in adoption schools as well under their school program.
He said that positive use of their energy will be ensured while connecting youth with sports-like activities. For this, maximum participation of youth will be ensured by organizing games at the district level. Hot weather football tournament held at Mandi’s Paddal is also being organized on a drug free market theme. In addition to this, awareness programs, Mahanati’s event along with Prabhat Ferry etc will also be taken out. People will be made aware by preparing video teaser and other promotional materials in local bid through the District Public Relations Officer.
Continuous monitoring and incentives will be ensured to improve counseling and treatment facilities at drug relief centers. Youth leaving these centres will be linked to various employment oriented plans including counseling for rehabilitation for a certain period of time after quitting drugs. Youth who have become drug free will also be connected to awareness campaign. Parents and guardians of such youth will also be especially aware so they can reunite them into the family with sensitivity.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Rohit Rathore, Additional Superintendent of Police Sagar Chandra, Officers from various departments including Councillor Rajendra Mohan on behalf of Mandi Literacy and Jan Development Committee and representatives of Art of Living, Brahma Kumari Sanstha, Arogya Jan Welfare Kendra, District Red Cross Society were also present in the meeting.
