Dolly Sharma accuses Modi govt of giving women one-third reservation in view of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections

 All India Congress Committee spokesperson Dolly Sharma has accused the Modi government at the Center of giving women the burden of one-third reservation in Parliament in view of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He said that if the BJP is so friendly to women then they should implement it in the country from the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Today, while addressing a press conference at Rajiv Bhawan, the state Congress headquarters, Dolly Sharma accused the BJP government at the Center of trying to mislead the people of the country by calling a special session of the Lok Sabha only by organizing grand events. He said that if the BJP was really interested in a one-third reservation for women in Parliament and Assemblies, it would have implemented it in the country from 2024 itself. He said that Congress has given full support in getting this bill passed. He said that to implement this, BJP’s talk of the first population census and de-limitation is clear that this will also prove to be a mere statement like 15 lakh.

Dolly Sharma said that former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi had started women’s reservation in 1989. At that time, senior BJP leaders had opposed this bill and this bill was defeated in the Rajya Sabha by only 7 votes. After that, Congress kept trying for women’s reservations. In 1992, the then Prime Minister Narasimha Rao brought the Women’s Amendment Bill, enshrining 33 percent reservation in municipal bodies and Panchayati Raj institutions.

Dolly Sharma said that former National President of Congress Sonia Gandhi wrote a letter to the Prime Minister on Women’s Day in 2010 to give one-third reservation to women in Parliament. After that, citing this letter, Rahul Gandhi demanded reservation for women in 2011. He said that the Modi government at the Center remained completely asleep during its 9-year tenure, now when Lok Sabha elections are to be held in the country next year, the BJP has given big trouble to the women.

Dolly Sharma said that the BJP has never been women-friendly. He said that Congress appointed the first woman President, Prime Minister, Lok Sabha Speaker, and even party president in the country. BJP should tell how many women it has given this honor. He said that Priyanka Gandhi had given party tickets to 40 percent of women in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. He said that during the BJP rule, women have been harassed to such an extent that they have never been harassed before.

State Congress President and MP Pratibha Singh, senior Congress leader former minister Asha Kumari, Deputy Mayor of Shimla Municipal Corporation Uma Kaushal, Mahila Congress President Zainab Chandel along with all the women councilors of Shimla Municipal Corporation, and office bearers of Mahila Congress were also present in the press conference.

Dolly Sharma has said that the state government will fulfill all its election guarantees. He said that the state government has fulfilled its first guarantee by implementing OPS.

Dolly Sharma said that in this hour of disaster in the state, the BJP is not providing any support to the state government. He said that BJP leaders are not cooperating with any help from the Centre. He said that State Congress President MP Pratibha Singh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and demanded special financial help but no BJP leader has met the Prime Minister. He said that BJP should tell what efforts they have made to the Center in this regard.
