Meeting held in Kinnaur under Drug-Free India Campaign
A district-level meeting was held in the Deputy Commissioner’s office auditorium of Tribal District Kinnaur as part of the Drug-Free India campaign. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma.
Dr. Sharma emphasized the importance of educating the younger generation in Kinnaur about the harmful effects of drugs and the need to curb drug trafficking through police efforts to make Kinnaur completely drug-free. He urged the Departments of Health, Education, Police, and Social Justice to work together to address these issues effectively.
He instructed the Health and Education Departments to regularly educate students about the dangers of addiction and to focus on mental health and counseling to encourage positive behavior among the youth. He also mentioned that the district police could be informed about drug dealers via a mobile app, ensuring the informant’s identity remains confidential.
Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shekhar led the meeting and provided details on the actions taken by the police against drug dealers. He called on the district’s informed citizens to cooperate with the police to strengthen the campaign against drug trafficking.
The meeting also included detailed discussions on the campaign under the Kotpa Act 2003 and the rehabilitation centers established by the Health Department for young men and women.
District Welfare Officer Balbir Thakur highlighted efforts to engage the younger generation in sports, with various activities being organized at the district, panchayat, and section levels. He announced that awareness programs would be held in the district under the Drug-Free India campaign during village meetings in various panchayats on October 2, 2024.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Jitendra Saini, District Health Officer Dr. Kaviraj Negi, Deputy Director Primbhik Kuldeep Negi, and District Program Officer Sanjok Mehta, along with other officers and staff from various departments, were present at the meeting.
The workshop also featured a speech competition, where the chief guest honored the winners. Prachi Sharma from State Senior Secondary School Sanjauli won first place at the school level, while Prachi Sharma from State Senior Secondary School Summerhill secured second place. At the college level, Nikita Dhiman from Center of Excellence College Sanjauli and Parul from RKMV tied for second place. Other participants, including Tanvi, Kajal, Kritika, Shalu Manta, Simran, and Ritika Chambiyal, received consolation prizes.
