District administration fully prepared to conduct free and fair elections
District Election Officer Shimla Anupam Kashyap said today that the model code of conduct has come into force with the announcement of elections by the Election Commission of India. The district administration is fully prepared to conduct fair and free elections.
He said that the gazette regarding the election will be issued on May 7, 2024. After this, the last date for the nomination would be May 14 and scrutiny would be done on May 15. The date for withdrawal of nomination is May 17 and voting will be held on June 1 and counting of votes will be done on June 4.
He said that there are a total of 13 lakh 32 thousand 289 voters in the Shimla Lok Sabha constituency, out of which there are 902 polling stations in Shimla, 592 in Solan, and 589 in Sirmaur.
Apart from this, there are 5 lakh 90 thousand 317 voters for the Shimla Lok Sabha assembly constituency in Shimla district. The District Election Officer informed that a toll-free number 1950 has also been issued in the district through which any citizen can complain about the violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The district has a sufficient number of 1731 ballot units, 1432 control units, and 1877 VVPATs for the elections.
There are 7 critical polling stations in the district, out of which 3 are present in Chopal and 4 in Shimla Urban Assembly constituency. There are 23 model polling stations in the district. 16 polling stations will be operated by women and 8 by people of person with physical disability category. He said that the largest polling station in Shimla is Shangin where there are 1348 voters and the smallest polling station is Summerhill.
There are a total of 7274 PWD voters in the district and 12629 voters are above 50 years of age.
During this, Additional Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Verma, Additional District Magistrate (Protocol) Jyoti Rana, Tehsildar Election Rajendra Sharma and other officers were present.
