Kullu DC Torul S. Raveesh emphasizes on safety and regulation in adventure sports
Deputy Commissioner Torul S. Raveesh chaired the District Kullu Air Sports and River Rafting Regulation Committee meeting, stressing the need for paragliding and rafting organizations to streamline operations by removing additional counters before September 15 and using single counters for better management.
She instructed that all adventure activity sites must display clear fee structures and guidelines for tourists. Marshals have been deployed at paragliding spots to ensure smooth operations. The DC emphasized the importance of meeting safety standards and providing tourists with safety information before engaging in activities like paragliding and river rafting.
To prevent overcrowding, she directed organizations to create a controlled environment at activity venues. She warned against speeding and intoxication, stating that licenses of operators involved in drug activities would be revoked. The DC also called for maintaining cleanliness at these sites and forming a committee to ensure compliance with rules and manage tourist traffic.
The DC highlighted that tourist safety is paramount and that all adventure sports must adhere to regulations. She insisted on forming separate associations for river rafting and paragliding, implementing a single-window system for operations, and ensuring that registration in Solang Valley is centralized.
She mandated that all routes for river rafting and paragliding remain unencroached and that associations monitor for any unwanted activities. Facilities like toilets and changing rooms should be provided, and no adventure activities should be conducted without proper permission. Surprise inspections will be conducted to ensure compliance, and safety equipment must always be available.
The meeting, conducted by the District Tourism and Development Officer, included key figures like Arvind Negi, SDM Vikas Shukla, SDM Manali Raman Sharma, and representatives from river rafting, tour operators, and paragliding associations.
