CSIR-IHBT commemorated International Women’s Day
CSIR- Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT), Palampur celebrated ‘International Women’s Day’ on 6th March 2023. The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “DigitAll: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality”.
On this occasion various scientists of the institute interacted with the students and discussed the opportunities available in science based profession. Dr. Pamita Bhandari, Principal Scientist, CSIR-IHBT delivered lecture on ‘Bioactives from Himalayan Medicinal plants and their value addition’, Dr. Sarita Devi, Scientist on ‘Microbial enzymes and their industrial applications’, Dr. Vidyashankar Srivatsan, Senior Scientist on ‘Importance of balanced diet and micronutrients for health and well-being of women’ and Dr. Poonam Kumari, Scientist on ‘Value Addition in Floriculture’. Besides this, other highlights of the event were the Technology Exhibition and visit to Tulip Garden, Chemistry Lab, Tissue Culture Lab, Tea Processing Unit, Dry Flower and Pilot Plant of the institute.
Dr. Prabodh Kumar Trivedi, Director, CSIR-IHBT in his message greeted the participants on International Women’s Day. He wished them a successful career in science and encouraged them to work for women’s empowerment and make their efforts count for the cause. During the program, Dr. Aparna Maitra Pati, Chief Scientist, CSIR-IHBT urged all the students to take advantage of this educational visit and encouraged them to take it as a golden opportunity. She also discussed about the start-up and entrepreneurship programs, especially running for women at CSIR-IHBT, Palampur.
In this program, 130 girl students of B-Pharma and MS.c from Chitkara University, Rajpura (Punjab), Sai University, Palampur and Goswami Ganesh Dutt Sanatan Dharma College Rajpura, Palampur (Himachal Pradesh) along with their teachers participated in the programme.
