Crop Diversification with Training Workshop for Farmers organised in Mandi
Under the second phase of the Crop Diversification Incentive Project, 809.92 hectares in Mandi district are set to be developed for diverse crop cultivation. Project Manager Ashwani Kumar of Zaika Phase-2 shared that 27 sub-projects are underway to support this initiative.
On October 23, a sensory training workshop took place in Aarang under the Bahav Irrigation Scheme in Padhar, guiding farmers to align their crop choices with market demand. Farmers received crop calendars for cauliflower and garlic, encouraging a “grow-to-sell” approach. They were introduced to cash crop cultivation under the Smallholder Horticulture Empowerment and Promotion scheme and provided insights into vegetable garden management.
Additional farm management and pest control training sessions were held in Kataula and Kalahar under the Flow Irrigation Scheme in Padhar. Farmers from the area also toured a vegetable marketing center, offering them a closer look at commercial farming practices.
Agricultural development and broadcasting officers from district and division project management units were present to support and facilitate the workshop, ensuring hands-on guidance for the participating farmers.
