Convention on Drug Issue on Sep 8, CM and Education Minister to Attend
On the occasion of International Literacy Day on September 8, the State Gyan Vigyan Kendra, which has played a key role in the literacy campaign, is organizing a convention to formulate a solid policy to save the youth from drug abuse and to discuss its various aspects. The convention will be held at Bachat Bhawan in Shimla, with Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh as the chief guest and Education Minister Rohit Thakur as the special guest.
Along with CM’s secretary Rakesh Kanwar, all departments working on drug issues, social and cultural organizations, and concerned citizens will also participate in the event.
The aim of the convention is to bring together all departments, organizations, and individuals working against drugs onto one platform. Sharing this information, Dr. Kuldeep Singh Tanwar, president of the State Gyan Vigyan Kendra, said that drug abuse is spreading so rapidly in society that neither the government, administration, nor any organization can tackle it alone. If we want effective and concrete results against drugs, everyone must come together and make a coordinated effort.
He stressed that drug abuse is not just a law and order issue but also a matter of physical and mental health, as well as social concern. Therefore, along with the government and administration, civil society and its institutions must unite and take collective action.
He added that the problem cannot be solved by strict laws or mere awareness alone. Both the demand and supply sides of drug abuse need to be addressed. On September 8, discussions will focus on this topic, and a comprehensive and coordinated policy will be developed.
