Community should come forward to end HIV and AIDS : Rajiv Kumar
Project Director of Himachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society Shimla, Rajiv Kumar chaired the meeting of State Community Resource Group Committee under Community System Strengthening on Saturday in which representatives of various departments as well as people associated with the community participated.
The project director said that the community itself should come forward to eliminate HIV and AIDS, so that the spread of the infected disease can be stopped in the state. No new infection of HIV and AIDS should spread in the country especially due to those people who have not yet come forward and still do not have correct information about this disease. In this context, awareness towards high risk groups is being increased through Community Champions. He said that community is committed to end HIV and AIDS.
Rajiv Kumar stressed on the involvement of the departments along with the community to increase awareness for de-addiction and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. He also requested the various departments to maintain the confidentiality of the people suffering from this disease to encourage other communities to come forward, who feel hesitant because of this disease.
Representatives of State Legal Services Authority, Department of Empowerment of SC’s, OBC’s, Minorities Affairs & the Specially Abled, State Economics and Statistics Department, State Rural Livelihood Mission, Police Department and representatives of various communities were also present on this occasion.
