Combatting Drug Addiction: HGVS Organizes Camp to Raise Awareness in Solan
The Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti, a vocal advocate against drug addiction in Solan, initiated a two-day camp targeting workers from Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur. Over 80 participants are actively engaged in this initiative, extending until Monday.
Dr. Om Prakash Bhureta, State President of Himachal Gyan Vigyan Samiti, inaugurated the camp. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bhureta highlighted the pervasive impact of drug addiction on society, emphasizing its detrimental effects on individuals and families. He attributed the rise in addiction to factors like poverty, unemployment, and societal dissatisfaction, foreseeing a surge in psychological ailments and depression.
NR Thakur, the camp’s resource person on the first day, warned about the impending threat of drug addiction surpassing the magnitude of the Covid-19 pandemic. He stressed the need for collective responsibility, urging role models in society, including doctors, teachers, and social workers, to lead by example.
Satyawan Pundir, State Secretary of the committee, outlined the camp’s objectives, aiming to equip participants to combat drug abuse across the state. He revealed plans to establish a comprehensive platform involving diverse segments of society, with an action plan slated for development.
Distinguished speakers, including Dr. BS Panwar, Dr. Ajay Singh, Rajeev Bansal, Dr. Reena Singh Tanwar, and Dr. Ravi Bhushan, addressed various dimensions of the issue. Notable attendees included Asha Zinta Advocate, Ajay Kumar Advocate, and Prof. TD Verma, among others, underscoring the collective effort required to address this pressing societal concern.
