Chief Secretary reviews poll preparedness with stakeholders
Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena presided over a review meeting of all administrative secretaries organized here today by the Election department to review poll preparedness for the ensuing Lok Sabha elections 2024, in the presence of Chief Electoral Officer, Maneesh Garg.
All the departments were directed to take up their assigned roles with sincerity. The Director General of Police was asked to ensure a cent percent deposition of licensed firearms and execution of pending nonbailable warrants. All departments were also asked to ensure that their buildings used as polling stations are well maintained and contain all the Assured Minimum Facilities prescribed by the Commission.
He also issued necessary directions related to the sealing of border areas with neighboring states and kept a strict vigil to check the illegal use of liquor and other inducements. The health department was also asked to notify the facility of cashless treatment to polling personnel and security forces. The Social Justice and Empowerment department was asked to ensure the provision of wheelchairs and volunteers at every polling station for the assistance of disabled and old voters and enrollment and marking of the left-out disabled voters in the electoral rolls.
Chief Electoral Officer-cum-Principal Secretary Election, Maneesh Garg gave a comprehensive overview of the roles and responsibilities of different departments towards poll preparedness in the state.
Additional Chief Secretary Revenue, Jal Shakti Vibhag, and Home, Onkar Chand Sharma, Principal Secretary Finance Devesh Kumar, Secretary Administrative Reforms C. Palarasu, Secretary Education and I&PR Rakesh Kanwar, Director General of Police Sanjeev Ranjan Ojha and Head of Departments attended the review meeting.
