Celebrating 165 Years of Excellence at Bishop Cotton School

Bishop Cotton School, one of Asia’s oldest public boarding schools for boys, founded on 28 July 1859 by Bishop George Edward Lynch Cotton, is marking 165 years of educational excellence. The school upholds its tradition of nurturing young minds, emphasizing holistic development through a blend of academics, sports, and extracurricular activities, with a special focus on debating.

The Slater Debates are a key platform for fostering rational thinking and critical reasoning. This esteemed inter-school competition helps students understand diverse perspectives, build evidence-based arguments, and engage in respectful dialogue. Debating enhances active listening, empathy, and intellectual growth, contributing to both personal and societal development.

Today, Bishop Cotton School hosted schools from across the nation and abroad for the 2024 Slater Debates. The day ended with the draw of lots for the pre-qualifiers, setting the stage for an exciting competition.

The Slater Debates offer students a unique chance to test their analytical skills and express varied viewpoints. As we gear up for this intellectual contest, we anticipate an enriching exchange of ideas that will inspire collaboration and innovation.
