Campaign against illegal liquor of Excise Department continues

In view of the assembly elections, the enforcement team of the Central Zone of the Excise Department took action against illegal liquor in district Bilaspur and recovered 125 boxes (1500 bottles) of different brands of English liquor.
                The Commissioner of State Taxes  and Excise, Yunus said here today that the department had been receiving information about liquor being sold in the area for quite some time. The officials of the enforcement team have succeeded in seizing this consignment by alerting their information system in this area.

He said that the place where this liquor was caught was a closed shop; the owner of the shop was not present on the spot. Therefore, in the presence of Panchayat Pradhan and Police, action was taken under the Excise Act by breaking the lock and taking possession of the said quantity of liquor and the case has been handed over to the nearest police station for further action including liquor. In another case, the task force of Revenue District Baddi searched a Scorpio vehicle during checking of vehicles in Nalagarh and seized 8 boxes (96 bottles) of liquor in it. Taking action under the Excise Act, an FIR has been registered against the person involved in taking possession of liquor at Nalagarh Police Station.    

He said that after the notification of the election, a campaign is going on against illegal liquor and goods which can affect the electoral process in the entire state. Teams of the department are thoroughly checking all the vehicles coming to the state at the inter-state borders. The department is taking action against people dealing in illegal liquor by setting up nakas in border areas and routes where smuggling is prevalent. Checking is being carried out by the Task Force under all Acts. In order to prevent the supply of liquor for free and fair elections in Himachal Pradesh, the officials of the department are performing their tasks 24×7 vigilantly.
