BJP wins RS poll by toss in Himachal, Six Congress MLAs allegedly cross voted

BJP candidate Harsh Mahajan defeated ruling Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi in cross-voting and toss as counting of votes held for a Rajyasabha one seat today.

According to the BJP Election counting agent and member of assembly from Ghumerwin BJP defeated the Congress candidate Abhishek Manu Singhvi in the neck-to-neck contest by toss votes as after the BJP and Congress candidates got 34 votes each in 68 assembly.

Mr Sharma said the BJP has filed an objection to cancel the votes of Sudarshan Bablu who was fried in the government helicopter today from the hospital. BJP alleged that Congress violated the model code of conduct by misusing government machinery to cast a vote. 

After getting clarification from the Election Commission of India and rejecting the objection of BJP the decision of election was held by the toss in which the BJP candidate was declared the winner.

In a high-level drama six BJP MLAs voted in the Rajyasabha election and three Independent members were stated to vote in favour of the BJP therefore Congress which has 40 members in the house defected and cross-voted in favour of the BJP candidate in the most unexpected move.

It was the second time when the decision was held by the tie and toss for RS as in the 2000 RS poll Congress also lost a similar election when Amarnath Bijwariya was defeated in a similar move. Similarly, it was also the second incident of cross-voting in the history of state legislature.

Speaking during the counting Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu accused the Narender Modi government to kidnap six party MLAs who reported at Panchkula after casting their votes. Chief Minister said that CRPF and Haryana police kidnapped the party MLA after they were cross votes.

Speaking in the assembly today the leader of the opposition Jai Ram Thakur demanded a division of vote on the cut motions of the Health Department. Mr Thakur said that the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government lost the majority in the house. However, the speaker expunged the remarks of LOP in the house but he repeated the same outside assembly.
