Bishop Cotton School clinches victory after a dramatic penalty shootout
In a heart-stopping finale, Bishop Cotton School (BCS) emerged victorious in the 12th Bishop George Edward Lynch Annual Football Tournament after a dramatic penalty shootout against Pinegrove School. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, leading to a tense shootout where BCS triumphed 3-1, missing only one of their four penalties.
This victory marked a significant achievement for BCS football coach and Director of Sport, Gurprit Singh, who celebrated his ninth consecutive tournament win. The competition featured eight of India’s top school football teams, including Lawrence School, Sanawar, Daly College, Indore, and La Martiniere, Lucknow.
The high level of play impressed Simon Weale, the British Director of BCS, who remarked, “The growth of football in India suggests that one day the quality of India’s football will match with cricket. It was a pleasure to welcome our fellow boarding schools to this exciting event and we are thrilled for our boys that they managed to find a way to win.”
BCS will now gear up for their next challenges at Mayo College and Sanawar, aiming to continue their winning streak in the final two tournaments of the season.
