Awareness camp organized on World Alzheimer’s Day and Hearing awareness week

The Health and Family Welfare Department of District Shimla organized an awareness camp on World Alzheimer’s Day and Hearing Awareness Week at the Vikasnagar Day Care Centre for the Elderly. This event was held under the guidance of Chief Medical Officer Dr. Rakesh Pratap and with the cooperation of Dr. Anmol Gupta, President of the Community Medicine Department at IGMC.

Dr. Archit Sharma from the Community Medical Department (IGMC Shimla) provided detailed information on Alzheimer’s disease and hearing loss, including symptoms, causes, prevention, and treatment. He explained that Alzheimer’s is a neurological disorder primarily affecting the elderly, slowly destroying brain cells and impacting memory, thinking ability, and behavior. He emphasized the importance of a healthy diet, good sleep, regular exercise, and meditation for prevention. Regarding ear care, he advised contacting a doctor for ear pain, leaks, or injuries and protecting ears from loud noise and dirty water. He also warned against the excessive use of devices like headphones, which can reduce hearing ability.

Dr. Rakesh Pratap announced that Hearing Awareness Week in the district would be conducted from September 23 to 29, featuring various awareness activities. He urged the public to stay alert and aware of their health and to contact the nearest health institution if they experience any health problems.

Additionally, a non-communicable disease camp was organized, where diabetes and blood pressure tests were conducted.
