Alka Lamba Demands Immediate Arrest of BJP MLA Hansraj Over Alleged Crime Against Woman

Alka Lamba, President of the All India Mahila Congress, has called for the immediate arrest of Hansraj, a BJP MLA and former Deputy Speaker of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, over allegations of involvement in a crime against a woman.

During a press conference at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, Lamba accused the BJP of attempting to handle the issue internally instead of allowing law enforcement to take charge. She argued that Hansraj has no moral right to attend the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Legislative Assembly and should be in custody. Lamba warned that if the police fail to act swiftly, the Mahila Congress will stage protests and surround the Assembly. She also plans to meet the Chief Minister to demand action against Hansraj.

Lamba further criticized BJP President Jagat Prakash Nadda for dismissing the seriousness of the issue by labeling it a domestic matter. She asserted that the Mahila Congress will not allow this to be swept under the rug, emphasizing that the case is a legal issue involving a crime against a woman and cannot be resolved through internal discussions. She urged the police to seize Hansraj’s mobile phone and conduct a thorough investigation, stating that the matter cannot be settled simply because the victim withdrew her complaint. Lamba referenced Prime Minister Modi’s recent statement that once a woman files an FIR, it should not be altered, and pledged that the Mahila Congress will ensure prompt action on the FIR against Hansraj, even if there is pressure to withdraw it.

According to the FIR lodged at the Women’s Police Station, the daughter of a BJP worker accused Hansraj of sending obscene WhatsApp messages. However, the victim later retracted her allegations in court, stating that she no longer wished to pursue the case. Lamba condemned the lack of police action against Hansraj and vowed that the Mahila Congress will not allow the case to be suppressed without a proper trial. She insisted that Hansraj must face trial for his alleged crime and warned that her party will continue to protest until justice is served.
