After the Ice skating club in Shimla, now Ice Skating session begins in Kaza
Himachal Pradesh which normally considered sleepy during the winter season but the teenagers and youth aren’t confined to hot places with freezing temperatures sports and adventurous activities are suddenly thrown open with enthusiasm for ice skating, snowsports, and visiting the nearest snowpoint to enjoy snowrides on the snowbikes.
According to the Spokesperson of the state Public Relations Department Mr Ajay Benyal, SDM Kaza Mr Harsh Amarendra Singh Negi inaugurated the basic training camp of ice hockey in Lalung village of Spiti sub-division.
In this camp, around 60 children from Lalung village and adjacent villages are being trained.
In collaboration with the Ice Hockey Association Lahaul Spiti, training camps are being organized at various places in Spiti.
Spiti Ice Hockey Cup is to be organized in January 2024. In this cup, the players selected from the above six places will be given the facility to play matches after giving end-to-end coaching. Out of these, the winning team will be awarded the Spiti Ice Hockey Cup.
SDM Harsh Amarendra Singh Negi, who arrived at the inauguration of the basic training camp for ice hockey in Lalung village, said that ice hockey is being promoted as a winter sport in Spiti.
The children here have excellent stamina for playing ice hockey. They are being given coaching from basic to advanced levels of ice hockey so that the children of Spiti see ice hockey as a career and represent the country. In the past too, some children from Spiti have played at the international level.
SDM Harsh Amarendra Singh Negi said that the children of Lalung village earlier had to go to Kaza to learn ice hockey. In such a situation, there was also a financial burden on the families of the children.
Apart from this, there were further problems due to snowfall on bad roads. But now a better ice rink will be available in the village and coaches will give coaching only here. For the first time, an ice rink has been prepared in Lalung village.
The basic coaching of ice hockey is being given by preparing ice rinks in Saganam, Shichling, Hal, Kaza, and Losar of Spiti. Ice Hockey Spiti Cup is being organized in January 2024 in which only Spiti teams will participate.
Shimla Ice Skating Rink which became a victim of various construction activities by the state government is one of the ice skating centres for sports enthusiasts.
During previous years after the Covid pandemic and less Snowfall, the Kufri and Narkanda snowsports activities are almost at halts but districts Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur are ideal places to provide winter sports activities to the youth of the state. During chilly winter teenagers should be offered such physical activity as during holidays it keeps them engaged in creativity.
