After completion of lease period HP to take over operation of Shanan power house
Himachal Pradesh Government stated in the Assembly on Friday that after completion of lease period government would take over the operation of 110 mega watt Shanan power house the brtish era hydropower project in Himachal Pradesh currently being run by Punjab government in the Jogindernagar.
This was stated by power Minister Sukhram Chaudhary replying to a query raised by Independent legislator Mr Prakash Rana during the question hours today.
He said that lease period of the project is about to over soon and project would be take over after completion of lease period as PSEB executing the project would not handover the project state would knock the door of Court.
Member stated in the house that project is in state of shambles and it’s discharge have rendered heavy loss to the private property of the people.
He said that queries of people are not being addressed by the Punjab State Electricity Board the state government should intervene in the matter.
He accepted that currently state have no control over this project and despite raising the issue with BBMB and Punjab government the issue could not sorted out.
During reorganization of States Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh which took place in 1966 as per provision contained in Punjab re-organisation Act, 1966.
Under this act Shanan Power House situated at Jogindernagar (Mandi) in the State of Himachal Pradesh was allocated to Punjab State by The Government of India, Ministry of Irrigation & Power.
Member alledged that penstocks of the diversion tunnel have been blasted recently but it was not installed sofar.
Minister said that tender have been floated by the PSEB to restore the disrupted power project.
