About 150 people suffering from vomiting and diarrhea in the Nadaun sub-division of Hamirpur due to contaminated water
Stomach-related diseases have spread in an epidemic form in Rangas, Kandrola and Jol-Sappad panchayats of the Nadaun revenue sub-division of Hamirpur district due to the consumption of water supplied by the department of Jal Shakti.
About 150 people have fallen ill after drinking dirty water and the authorities have sent Asha workers to the villages to take care of the suffering people.
The outbreak of disease is still increasing continuously. The process of patients coming to private clinics and government hospitals has started, said an official spokesman.
Local Panchayat representatives have informed BMO Nadaun about this. While Asha workers working in these panchayats are going door-to-door taking details of patients and instructing them to take precautions.
This outbreak of vomiting and diarrhoea is in about a dozen villages, for the last 3 days people were drinking dirty water, it was said that the water of the drinking water scheme was supplied in these villages directly from the nearby khads, from where the water supply schemes were in operation. At what level has there been negligence in this and to what extent it will be known only after the investigation?
Ward Panch Ilam Din of Rangas Panchayat said that he started getting calls from many people on Saturday morning itself and till now it seemed that more than 150 people were suffering from stomach-related diseases.
Apart from this, the number of people suffering from fever along with vomiting and diarrhoea is also being reported in the adjoining Kandrola Panchayat.
Fandi Khan, former deputy head of Rangas Gram Panchayat, said that the number of patients could be more. The condition of the elderly people there was bad. Till now no team of the department has reached the area.
Reports reaching here said that the people of a dozen villages including Banh, Jandgi Gujran, Jandali Rajputan, Panyala, Pathiyalu, Niyati, Rangas Chowki Haar, Thain and Sankar have come under the grip of diarrhoea. The number of people affected by diarrhoea can reach around 200.
BMO Dr KK Sharma said that as soon as the news was received, 3 teams of the Health Department were sent to the spot. Of these, two teams have been sent from Nadaun Hospital and one team from Rail Hospital. Treatment of patients has started. The number of patients will be known only after investigation. The reasons for the spread of diarrhea will be known only after the report of the water sample comes.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhoo who represents this area in the state assembly had directed the Hamirpur district administration especially the Health department to take proper care of the suffering patients and ensure that there was no shortage of medicines and other items for them.
