A unique example of frugality was set by constructing a college building at a cost of 16.5 Cr
Despite administrative approval of about 21.5 crores, the Public Works Department Junga has set a unique example of frugality by constructing a new building of Government Degree College Chail Koti in about 16.5 crores. This has been confirmed by Assistant Engineer Public Works Department Junga Devesh Thakur. He said that minor works are still pending in the new building of the college as the funds of about five and a half crores from the Education Department are withheld due to which the new building could not be handed over to the college administration.
Let us tell you that for the past 10 years, the Government Degree College is running in the primary school building. Due to lack of building, science subjects are not taught in the college. Children of the area interested in science have to go to Shimla or Solan to study science subjects.
Devesh Thakur said that in the new building of the college, apart from administrative building, science block and arts block, other facilities like library, computer lab, playground etc. will be available. He said that the road leading to the college campus has also been constructed.
It is worth noting that the foundation stone of this building was laid by former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on May 17, 2015. After this, the construction work of this building remained in limbo after the BJP government came to power in the state in the year 2017. Let us tell you that in the year 2014, Degree College Chail Koti was started in the old building of the primary school. In the long span of 10 years, nine batches of Arts Faculty from this college have been completed in this primary school. The most important thing is that with the construction of the new building, the children of 12 panchayats of Junga area will have the facility of receiving higher education at their doorstep.
