A step towards a better future for CSIR and RSC

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), India and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), London organized a virtual “Global Battery Experiment” event on 22 September 2022 at CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology, Palampur. At the event, Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, Director General, CSIR and Dr. Paul Lewis, Chief Operating Officer, RSC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to work together under CSIR’s JIGYASA initiative – a school children and An India wide outreach program aimed at teachers. During the occasion, around 2000 students from across the country participated in RSC’s “Global Coinage Experiment” conducted in more than 30 CSIR laboratories. More than 50 students and 2 teachers of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Paprola also participated in CSIR-IHBT. In this program the students were taught to make batteries from coins and also to light LED bulbs. DG CSIR also delivered a special lecture on “Insights in Future of Battery Technology”.

In addition, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Director, CSIR-IHBT interacted with the students and informed them about the R&D activities conducted at CSIR-IHBT. In addition, he encouraged the students to take advantage of the laboratory facilities for their experiments. CSIR-IHBT also organized lab and field visits for students and teachers. A team of CSIR-IHBT scientists including Dr. Girish Nadda, Dr. Amit Chawla and Dr. Vivek Dogra coordinated the programme. , The experiments were conducted under the supervision of Mr. Mohit Sharma, Dr. Upendra Sharma, Dr. Amitabh Acharya, Mr. Ishwar Das and volunteers of the institute
