A marathon race was organized in Kinnaur district as part of the Drug-Free India Campaign


Revenue, Horticulture, Tribal Development, and Public Grievances Minister Jagat Singh Negi graced the occasion as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the marathon race organized by the District Welfare Department under the ‘Drug-Free India Campaign’ at Kalpa Stadium on the first day of the Red Cross Fair being held in Kinnaur district. He informed the youth about the ill effects of drugs and encouraged them to stay healthy and fit.
On this occasion, the Revenue Minister said that the main objective of organizing this marathon race is to make the youth of Kinnaur district aware of the ill effects of drugs and to generate a positive attitude towards sports among the youth. He said that it is necessary to make the people of the district aware of the importance of sports and the benefits they derive from it so that national and international level players can be produced from the tribal district of Kinnaur.
Tribal Development Minister Jagat Singh Negi said that the present state government is committed to promoting sports in the state, including tribal districts, and is working continuously in this direction. He said that various sports competitions are being organized at the block and panchayat levels by the state government to make sports an integral part of the lives of the youth so that talented players of the state can get a platform and they can bring laurels to the district, state, and country.
In addition, he said that a national-level marathon race will be organized soon in Kalpa so that local youth can get an opportunity to showcase their talent.
In the organized marathon race, the distance for the under-14 category for boys and girls was fixed at 12 km from Rikang Pio Bazar to Kalpa Stadium, 12 km for the under-19 category for boys and girls, and 16 km for the open category. The chief guest also honored all the winners.
On this occasion, the Revenue Minister announced a grant of Rs. 10,000 from his discretionary fund to the Home Guard Band of the district for their captivating band performance.
Earlier, District Welfare Officer Balbir Thakur welcomed the chief guest and apprised him of the awareness programs being organized in the district under the ‘Drug-Free India Campaign’.
Deputy Commissioner Kinnaur Dr. Amit Kumar Sharma, Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shekhar, SDM Kalpa Dr. Major Shashank Gupta, Deputy Director Primary Kuldeep Negi, Executive Engineer Public Works Dinesh Sen, and other officers and employees were present on the occasion.”
